I would suggest to my partners that our policy for recruitment of new lawyers for next five years should based on personal character of candidate, as the term character is defined in different ways by different theorists, but for our policy guide line, we see/define/explain character through the concept of virtue theory of character by Aristotle.
    Therefore, we should consider the character of candidates most important for our firm recruitment policy.
    I have also observed many candidates during the interviews do not have clear understanding of why character is important in your legal profession? thus,I would also recommend that we should arrange virtue theory short courses/trainings for those who are already working in the filed/profession.

  2. Recruitment Strategy

    We want our new recruits to have the right moral compass when making decisions regarding current and future clients, not only acting in the clients best legal interests but also acting in the best moral interests of all parties, as they have a duty to not only protect the client, but the firm and ultimately themselves.

    In that sense we will be looking for recruits to display the golden mean of character traits that we can base on virtue ethics outlines, to show for example, ambition but not so much that it becomes greed, to show compassion and understating, give fair and honest judgements and offer/display kindness where necessary/applicable.

    I suggest to not only nurture but encourage this we regularly, say twice a year, propose they go to or do some sort of training regarding this and are tested on scenarios where there is a grey area to be considered.

    This will be to make sure that we are promoting and encouraging the right traits to come through intrinsically as well as challenging people who maybe are not aware of its importance to consider it further.

    Obviously bearing in mind the firm could be busy this could be an online test that can be done within a month period at the persons own leisure if necessary.
